The Come-Back, Day 15. Of Sheep and Tourism.

Life is becoming more normal, bit by bit. As of today, we can go to the malls, to the beach, to tiny weddings, to small funerals, and sit inside a restaurant. All, of course, maintaining a distance of two meters with strangers, and wearing masks.

The government is being pressured to end the state of alarm and finish opening up the country. Last Saturday, the sheep of Vox took to the streets in cars, waving large flags, and chanting, "Gobierno dimisión!" In one breath they accuse the government of murder by allowing the virus to take hold, and in the next, of ruining the country by shutting it down. They should make up their minds.

I really don't like to hate, because I see it as a misuse of energy and something that just makes me feel worse. But there's really no other way to feel when I think about Vox and their hypocritical, self-aggrandizing, pseudo-patriotic trills. At the protest last Saturday, one of their leaders said that this was a great moment, on a par with when Spain won the World Cup. They are comparing a sports championship to a protest against the government over how a pandemic is being handled, in which thousands have died. Then, they go into chambers of the Congreso, and give speeches on how the government has forgotten the dead. It's a toss-up between them and Trump.

The rush to open up is making people forget that the government asserted at the end of March that there would be no normality, until possibly the end of the year, or even until a working vaccine was found and administered. The economy has been badly hit, and they want it to get going again as soon as possible. They also want to lose less face with the public, and stop losing possible votes. The 14 day quarantine imposed on all foreigners will be lifted when the state of alarm ends, at the end of June. By the beginning of July, flights will be expanded and tourists can start coming back. Though which countries they can come from, and what protocols they have to go through is still up in the air.

Some luxury hotels exact a negative Covid-19 test along with the reservation. They're assuming there are enough tests in all of Europe for someone to just call up and get an appointment for one without noticing any symptoms, just for travelling purposes. At the moment, they're only testing in Spain if someone has symptoms and has underlying medical problems, or is living with someone who does have them. I doubt anyone who wants to spend a week at a posh resort will have their doctor approve a test just because they want to go on vacation.

In France, until last week, bathing at the beach was not allowed. That didn't stop two men from doing so on the Côte d'Azur, in the south of France. To avoid getting caught, they donned hats to look like buoys. It didn't wash, though, at the end of the video you can hear the police whistle. They did it for the laughs, but I think it'll be an expensive joke.

Life continues.
