Chronicles of the Virus Day 36. Snakes of All Kinds

We live in extraordinarily selfish times, it seems. While humankind is generally selfish (we are animals, after all), our success as a species is based on being unselfish. When we help others, we are really helping ourselves. The current situation is an example. When we stay home to prevent contagion from happening, we are staying free from contagion, as well. Tell that it to the non-brainers holding rallies in some American states.

It seems that some right-wing bolt nuts in Democratic-run states that have lockdowns, consider those lockdowns go against their basic freedoms. They have gathered in close proximity, calling for their states to re-open. Some of them are saying Covid-19 is a hoax, and a way for Democrats to "seize" power. Yet, they are wearing masks and gloves. Why? Is it like when a student studies the night before the exam, yet he also takes a rabbit foot with him to class?

The United States Supreme Court has ruled upon free speech, saying that it can only be curtailed when it "is directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action." While those dimwits are acting just within the limits of free speech, the dimwit in the White House is perilously about to tip over the edge with his Tweets calling to "liberate" democratic-led states that have instituted lockdowns. But, then, the United States is no longer the country it once was. I just hope the virus isn't kept in circulation longer than it would have because of stupidity like that being advocated by the office that should be working to guarantee the wellbeing of the entire country.

We have our simpletons here. There have been plenty of arrests and fines in Spain for breaking quarantine. Some are questionable, for example, for going running through completely empty wilderness. Others are understandable, like the arrest of the woman who stripped and then climbed on top of a patrol car. Then there are those that get together block parties on their patio or in the woods. We're all (or at least the extroverts) feeling the pain of not being able to get together with family and friends. But this will end. Though it won't take as long as this video from Italy suggests. The mother keeps telling her son not to worry, that the quarantine won't last long.

Today, I found a photo in which you have to find the snake. I'll leave the nice, green, Australian woods here. Don't go walking without hip boots!

Life continues.
